HSC - 312 Clinical Immunology


An introduction to the basic concepts and terminology of immunity including development, structure and function of the lymphoid systems; the basis of antigenicity; antibody structure; methods of detection and measurement; mechanism of cellular immunity; white cell function; hypersensitivity reactions; the complement system; and mechanisms of immune suppression and tolerance. Topics include the immune response and the laboratory testing related to measuring the immune response; the pathogenesis and laboratory diagnosis of immunological disorders such as hypersensitivities, immune deficiencies, and autoimmunity. Prerequisite: Departmental permission. Credit Hours: (4)
