PED - 724 Pediatric Intensive Care


This course exposes the student to the type of care provided to medical, subspecialty, and surgical pediatrics patients who require higher acuity of care. The student is part of a medical team comprised of residents of varying experience levels. The student is expected to perform at a sub-intern level with regard to expectations and work requirements. By the end of the rotation, the student will be expected to learn: (1) The initial evaluation and stabilization of a critically ill patient; (2) pediatric resuscitation techniques; (3) basic ventilator management; and (4) procedures such as intubation and central line placement.
