PSY - 792 Psychiatric Consult (Med/Psych)


This course is designed for students interested in the internal medicine/psychiatry residency or psychiatry in a consultation/liaison setting. Adults hospitalized on medical, surgical, obstetric, and neurological services are studied with supervised diagnostic evaluation and continuing management. Integration of medical, psychological, and family issues are emphasized, including the role of the milieu-home, community, and hospital. Special work is done with dialysis patients, transplant patients, patients with malignancy, and those undergoing intensive care. The course is planned as an experience in all areas, with emphasis depending upon student interest and needs. Those interested in the combined internal medicine/psychiatry residency may choose to have additional experiences to acquaint them with the residency and this combined approach to patient care.
