CDS - 605 Genetics and Embryology of the Auditory System After reviewing basic biology, this course presents basic patterns of biological inheritance and basic human genetics terminology. Focus is on genetics and hearing loss, and topics include gene therapy and hearing loss, syndromic and nonsyndromic hearing loss and consideration of pharmacogenomics. The importance of genetic counseling, family history and beliefs, prevention and ethical/legal issues are discussed. Embryologic development of the auditory, vestibular and craniofacial systems is presented and related to auditory/speech/balance function following birth. Prerequisite: CDS 601 . Credit Hours: (2)
