Submitted by:  Animesh Barua, PhD

Errors:

  • Inconsistent number of required dissertation credits listed (pages 224-225)
  • Missing course description for GCC-693 Advanced Integrated Bioscience Topics
  • Missing course description for GCC-544 Advanced Biomedical Statistics
  • GCC-693 Advanced Integrated Bioscience Topics is not listed as satisfying any degree requirements
  • NEU-544 Statistics and Experimental Design for Neuroscience should not be listed as a degree requirement (page 223)
  • GCC-508 Writing Practicum is listed as a required course and should not be (page 223)
  • BTN 524 Communication and Laboratory Management is listed as a required course and should not be (page 223)

Corrections:

  • The correct number of required dissertation credits is 18.
  • The course description for GCC-693 is as follows:

    GCC-693 Advanced Integrated Bioscience Topics
This is a session of seminars given by the students to other students and faculty in the University. Additionally, this course monitors students’ attendance of other weekly seminars to obtain credit for attending and evaluating these seminars. Students enrolled in the 3rd year of the IBS PhD program are required to attend to share and learn the methods of graduate research being undertaken at Rush. The seminars are to focus on the background into the research undertaken by each student and it should be delivered in a manner that students and faculty not familiar in the subject matter can follow and understand. Observing students are expected to participate by asking questions in the sessions. Students are required to attend one additional seminar each week outside of the scheduled time. Each week, students will submit a report page to the course director of a seminar they have attended summarizing the topic background, the data presented, the conclusions drawn by the presenter and a brief critical analysis of the work. These reports are both to demonstrate attendance of an additional seminar and to display understanding of the seminar topic presented. Credit(s): (1)

  • The course description for GCC-544 is as follows:

    GCC-544 Advanced Biomedical Statistics
This is an advanced course that will cover principles of Biostatistics in the context of biomedical science. Topics include basic and advanced statistical theory and techniques for experimental design and analysis of biomedical data. Credit(s): (2)

  • GCC-693 Advanced Integrated Bioscience Topics can be counted toward core or elective requirements for this program.
  • GCC-544 Advanced Biomedical Statistics or GCC-547 Principles of Biostatistics II should be substituted in place of NEU-544 Statistics and Experimental Design for Neuroscience
  • GCC-508 Writing Practicum is not a required course, but can be counted toward core or elective requirements for this program.
  • BTN 524 Communication and Laboratory Management is not a required course, but can be counted toward core or elective requirements for this program.

Addendum for PhD in Health Sciences Program

Requested on:   February 13, 2020

Submitted by:  Douglas Kuperman, PhD

Error: Electives (Variable 4 to 19)

Correction: Electives (Optional as a degree course requirement)

Addendum for Rush Medical College

Requested on:   April 22, 2020

Submitted by:  Princess L. J. Currence, DSW-C

Pages in the Catalog: 61-64

Error: The introduction of an interprofessional course in the first-year curriculum; the addition of a term, which was necessary to transition to the common academic calendar, in the second-year curriculum; the addition of a term in the third-year curriculum caused by the operationalization of the common academic calendar; and the exclusion of year-one and year-three electives in clinical elective requirement calculations (to assist students budget and finance their educations), the increase in the amount of clinical weeks students could complete in a single subspecialty (to improve students’ residency applications), & the reduction in the number of required clinical weeks (in response to the coronavirus pandemic) in the fourth-year curriculum cause the originally-delineated plans of study for medical students who matriculated or returned from leave in Fall 2016 to be out of date. Additionally, the removal of third- and fourth-year service learning requirements cause the originally-delineated general graduation requirements for medical students who matriculated or returned from leave in Fall 2016 to be out of date.

Correction: IPE-502 should be added to the first-year plan of study; RMD-519A and RMD-519B should replace RMD-519, RMD-523A and RMD-523B should replace RMD-523, and RMD-533A and RMD-533B should replace RMD-533 in the second-year plan of study; RMD-550 should be listed twice in the third-year plan of study; and year-one and year-three electives should be excluded from, up to 12 weeks of a single subspecialty’s electives should be included in, & only 28 weeks of electives should be required in the fourth-year plan of study for medical students who matriculated or returned from leave in Fall 2016. Additionally, the service learning general graduation requirements should only apply to the first and second years for medical students who matriculated or returned from leave in Fall 2016.

Addendum for PhD in Integrated Biomedical Sciences Program

Requested on:   October 20, 2020

Submitted by:  Animesh Barua, PhD

Errors:

  • Beginning in Fall 2020 semester, The Graduate College stopped teaching Advanced Topics courses.  The Advanced Topics credit requirement is now incorrect in the original published Catalog (page 223)
  • Missing course description for GCC-550 Practical Bioinformatics
  • GCC-550 Practical Bioinformatics is not listed as satisfying any degree requirements
  • GCC-598 Pre-Dissertation Research is not listed as satisfying elective credits required for the program
  • PVM-553 Introduction to Epidemiology is not listed as satisfying elective credits required for the program
  • Track-specific Cognate and Elective options are missing from the Catalog

Corrections:

  • Students who began their program during this Catalog are now required to take a minimum of 5 credits of Advanced Topics credit (instead of 8 credits as originally published.)  The total number of Cognate credits required will remain at 16, and students can substitute track-specific Cognate courses to make up the difference.
  • The course description for GCC-550 is as follows:

    GCC-550 Practical Bioinformatics
This course will introduce biomedical graduate students to standard concepts in bioinformatics. In addition to reviewing different topics within bioinformatics, the course will offer practical lessons and hands-on exercises for students to practice common bioinformatics techniques, such as genome alignment, variant calling, and statistical analysis. Students will be introduced to the Linux command line interface used by most open source bioinformatics tools and “R” for statistical analysis and data visualization. Credit(s): (2)
  • GCC-550 Practical Bioinformatics can be counted toward elective credit
  • GCC-598 Pre-Dissertation Research can be counted toward elective credits after all other hours have been exhausted
  • PVM-553 Introduction to Epidemiology can be counted toward elective credit
  • Track-specific Cognate and Elective options are below:
