CLM - 513 Legal Issues in Health Care


The rapidly changing legal environment of health care affects clinical laboratories. Laboratory managers must have a working knowledge of the legal system, and statutes, regulations, and case law which affects them. This course provides a web-based approach to learning the essential legal issues affecting laboratory management, using cases, statutes, and regulations. Learning units are organized to cover an introduction to the American legal system, health care system organization, relationship between the patient and the laboratory, health care information and privacy, civil tort liability of the laboratory, criminal liability and penalties, and protection of intellectual property.
