IS - 301 Introduction to Patient Care I


An overview of the historical development of radiography, and basic radiation protection. An introduction to the many facets of allied health professions; including types of health care professionals, medical ethics, medical terminology, patient assessment, infection control procedures, emergency and safety procedures, communication and patient interaction skills, promoting a safe clinical environment and basic pharmacology. Topics also include patient’s right to privacy, confidentiality, documentation, team building, cultural issues, age related concerns, and death and dying. This course is intended to assist students in the understanding of the environment encountered in clinical agencies. This course infers from evidence-based medicine to promote the application of critical thinking skills and clinical judgment. Prerequisite: Admission to the Department.Entry Level MRI students.
