PSY - 701 Core Clerkship: Psychiatry


The core psychiatry clerkship provides basic medical and didactic exposure to the major psychiatric disorders focusing on their diagnosis and management. Emphasis is placed on aspects of psychiatry relevant to the primary practitioner with a holistic approach to patient care, recognizing the significant biological, psychological, and social/environmental factors contributing to the patient’s illness. Systems concepts of care are presented in an integrated manner through graded, intensive clinical experiences. Inpatient settings employed for assignment of patient responsibility include general adult, intensive adult, consultation- liaison services, and clinical research. Outpatient settings include Stroger Hospital, and clinical research at the Treatment Research Center at Rush. Required Credit Hours: (4)
