HSC - 371 Health Education


The Health Education course introduces students to the fundamentals of patient/client education. The impact of culture, sexuality, language, cognitive ability, socio-economic status and health literacy on patient education will be explored. An overview of basic education and counseling principles, motivational interviewing, and patient education skills will be provided. Students will examine the role of education on patient’s/client’s ability to cope with health issues, adhere to prescribed treatment plans and encourage positive behavioral health-related changes.
